I am the head of the Fair and Explainable Decision Making (FED) lab at UMass. We are exploring a variety of projects on fairness and explainability. These include works on the theoretical foundations of fair allocation, how to correctly explain algorithmic decisions, and the (re)design of fair allocation mechanisms with provable fairness and efficiency guarantees.

You have to submit your application to UMass CICS, and flag me as one of your potential advisors. If you are interested in working with me and want to reach out before/after you apply, I ask that you follow the following steps:

  1. Read through the list of publications on my webpage.
  2. Identify one topic that you are particularly interested in, and write a brief summary (one page or less in PDF format) of potential open questions you might want to work on.
  3. Email me the summary and your updated CV, with the subject line "Potential Graduate Student at UMass CICS:" followed by your full name.
