Eliot Moss attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, completed a BSEE in Computer Science in 1975, an MSEE in 1978, and a PhD in 1981. After serving at the US Army War College, he assumed a position as Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1988. His research interests relate to efficient implementation of modern programming languages (such as Java) on modern processors. Specialty interests include automatic memory management (garbage collection) and application of machine learning to compiler problems. He is also a father of two and an ordained member of the clergy of the Episcopal Church.
