Course Setup:

*****All student class work should be done in the course subdirectory!!
(cd cs187)
*****All course common files should go in the common directory!!
(/courses/cs100/cs187/cs187)

[We have no course common files. Everything is in the web pages and on WebCT. The EdLab space gives you a "place" to do your work, but you can use your own computer as an alternative or in addition.]

All students will have an account. Most usernames will be first character of their first name appended by their lastname (truncated at 8 characters) --

Example: tkellogg - for Terrie Kellogg.

If this combination is not unique the user will need to get their username from the roster sent to the professor. Updated student lists will be sent after we add accounts.

The initial passwords will be your 8 digit assigned Student ID numbers (unless you had an account last semester, then it will be whatever you set it to last semester).

Each student will have an account with their home directory on the grad partitions. The students are all in the group grad. Their login will source the course .login and .cshrc scripts (/courses/cs100/cs187/cs187/.login, .cshrc). They will also have links to the courses that they take. A student in cs187 would type:
cd cs187
to get to their course directory. This is where they should do all cs187 work!!!

Each student in the class will have a directory under the top level course directory /courses/cs200/cs187. The directories have group access only (cs187). The instructor (and TA if there is one) are the only people in that group.

Please do NOT print handouts or lecture notes on Ed Lab printers!

Please send mail to system@cs.umass.edu if you have any questions or problems.
