Greetings, Jim;

Because MSFS 5.0 is a DOS-based program, it will not run or run poorly
under Windooze. If I recall correctly, you had to do major tweaking to
get it to run under Windooze 3.1, but I've never tried with Win95.

The reason your 'puter does not have Memmaker is because Win95 is an
operating system in itself, unlike Win 3.1 which was merely a GUI used to
give commands to other DOS programs. Win95 runs a "pretend" version of
DOS that does not include all of the DOS functions.

At any rate, Memmaker simply looked through your startup files in DOS and
moved some of the TSR's and other settings into high memory, which freed
up the 640K base. Win95 does not allow you to do this.

Sorry to make a short story long ( too late!! ), you may try creating a
shortcut to the FS5.exe file on your desktop. Then, you can edit the
shortcut properties and find a selection marked "Prevent program from
detecting Windows". You can also specify some of the memory settings the
program needs, although I've not found this feature to be of much use.
Apply your changes and give it a try.

However, my gut feeling is that it still will not run. It's not that it's
a bad program, just old. Ditch it and find a copy of FS95 or FS98. Your
machine can handle it.

Feel free to contact me if you are having problems doing this. I'll dust
off my copy of FS5.

Kind regards,
Andy
