Welcome to Windows :)

This is one of the reasons I'm such a proponent of imaging software,
such as PowerQuests Drive Image or Ghost (yuk).

Set up the drive perfectly, with all the normal software you run and all
the updates you can find, then image that puppy.

Put the image, along with the software necessary to re-write the image
to the drive, and burn it to a bootable CD.

Takes me about 60 minutes to reinstall and re-create an 8 gig drive
that's nearly full :)
