The old Monster 1 only has 4MB of memory, and NFS3 requires 12MB to give
you the dash board.  Efficient programming, eh?

It can also happen with a Direct3D card that does not have enough
memory.  Some of these cards cut back on the amount of 3D memory
available to 3D in relation to the display size/bit depth you have set,
so it is possible that even a 16MB AGP card won't have enough if your
display settings are too stiff.

FWIW, the Monster II card I bought recently, for this _very_ reason, has
been nothing but a headache and I wish I had never done it.  I've
already sold my original Monster card, so I'm stuck with it now...
