Tee hee,

I fly out of a towered airport in Washington state, and especially early
in the morning, the controllers are quite friendly, and if they know you
will start up a conversation. Sometimes even if they don't.

The only time it's a problem is when you are 10 miles out, ready to call
in to land, and can't get a break in their conversation.

In fact, I was doing just that on my FAA check ride, and the FAA
designated examiner was none too pleased about the "conversation" at the
airport. However, they still do it today, so I don't know that he did
anything!
