You and your airplane are both in for a rude awakening if you
persist in beliving that this is a purely theoretical discussion.
Angle-of-Attack DOES control airspeed and Power DOES
control rate-of-climb (descent), at least it has for the past 41
years.  Students need to be taught this from day-one.
