I submit that you are rationalizing a bad habit.  It's like sticking
your foot our when cornering a motorcycle.  You can justify doing
it any number of ways, until you break your leg.

Let us know if your DE flunks you for it.  If I were you, I'd ask his
opinion before you get in the plane.
