Seriously, it's a lot like touch typing -- there is not really all that much 
to learn, but it takes a lot of practice.

I am helping a very new PP-ASEL get his complex endorsement and he is "coming 
along."  However, he exhibits all the standard textbook problems.  Mainly, he 
is "behind the plane" -- he's over the numbers on final and still doing things 
that should have happened on downwind.  

His other problem is not sticking with whatever he is doing.  He needs to 
pick an altitude, pick an airspeed, pick a power setting, and FLY that.  
Instead he is all over the sky.  [I noticed last flight that every time he 
makes a radio call he loses 200 feet.]

But he's getting better... it just takes lots of practice.
