: What do you mean by "requests for ATC-on-9"

United Airlines carries ATC (whichever frequency the pilot is
currently using) on channel 9 of the inflight entertainment system.

ATC-on-9 is at the pilots discretion. Since the previous pilot
may have left it turned off, or tuned to a local football game,
it is always worth asking the pilot if he (or she) minds turning
it on for you.

Cheers,

Rick
