I have had to manuever the plane as well as a safety
pilot.

Never! ;-)

I've operated under the assumption that this thread
is regarding folks operating strictly as safety pilots
for pilots doing hood work. If the safety pilot is
an instructor, etc, that's a whole 'nuther ball o' wax.

If it's someone just doing hood work and the safety
pilot is fulfilling other duties, then perhaps the
pilot isn't ready to be operating the plane under
the hood without an instructor ....

I probably should drop from this debate: I don't have
any twin time so I'm arguing from a position of not
truly having all the information I need. That makes
my logic not much more than 'gut feeling'. :-)

Falls don't kill people. It's the deceleration trauma.
