I find it very hard to do during practice of maneuvers, but it's
good, in general, to try to keep track of where the nearest airports
are at all times.  Small private airstrips and grass strips in
particular take a bit of spotting.

Amoung other things, it tells you one place where traffic is
likely to congregate and keeps you from blasting through the
pattern unawares :(
