A sailor friend of mine says the same thing about inviting people to his
boat. They frequently just flake out, sometimes in advance, but
sometimes that same morning. He tends to invite groups of people these
days, so the odds are with him. I invited a friend for a plane ride who
showed up 2 hours late; after, of course, I had cancelled the plane
rental. Sometimes I think hesitant people are worried about safety in
the aircraft, but maybe it's just the gravity of the activity. (Of
course, maybe it's just not worth analyzing!)
