Yes, exactly!  Check everything you can, but I do think getting
to know (and deciding how much you trust) the people doing the
maint. and the guy in charge of deciding what will be done, is
very important...and an often overlooked aspect of "Flight Safety".

Tip: mechanics are generally very fond of chocolate brownies and such,
and even when people bring goodies to the FBO they often don't make it
out to the hangar.  Amazing what people will tell you over a pastry 
and a cup of coffee :).
