Just a comment, many Cessnas (and maybe other planes?) have a
foam mesh screen on the front of the plane, over the air intake.

I've heard of it happening that ice xtals collect on the foam
mesh screen, and block the air intake.   Apparently very heavy
rain can do this also.

Carb heat is an alternate air source, as well as a source of 
heated air.  Something to keep in mind.
