I would suggest asking the DE's weight when making the appointment
for the checkride, especially if taking the ride in a two-place,
and especially if the pilot is near or above the 170 lb "standard".

Then plan accordingly wrt fuel.  If one waits until the DE shows up
on the day of the checkride this might not be possible.

Some DEs will not do a checkride in an overweight plane.

Others have the "full fuel is better than being within max gross"
philosophy, though I never have quite followed this, after all
if one flies any distance at some point one is going to have 
even less fuel, it's just a matter of planning.
