More than half a dozen calls.

First to the number in the phone book before I was a "proper student".
Then after I had my student ticket but not my PP (see DejaNews for more
on that). Then a month ago but at a really bad time.

Then finally by being disgustingly pleasant AND flexible and telling
them I could come at any time (I'm the boss; I can take time off when I
want).

The people I talked to were surprised to hear I had so much trouble
arranging the "tour" and didn't understand why I was denied when I was a
student. This is quite believable since, as I said, I seem to be in the
minority of VFR pilots who LIKE being under control (sometimes ya just
gets tired of whipping yer neck around looking for dangerous things up
instead of at neat things down). They asked for a name, but alas, I had
none.

Then again, the US Postal "Service" STILL won't allow you to drop
packages over 1 lb. in a box (ever since TW800) despite knowing that
there was no terrorism involved (and that you can send a letterbomb that
weighs well under 15oz.) AND *after* Ted (UNABOM) Kasczyinski (sp?) was
caught, tried and sentenced. Mebbe the guy who I talked to was just a
bit overy security-conscious.

Note: When I left, I left alone and went one floor too low in the
elevator. I saw a sign on the door to challenge ANYONE in that area
without a badge. Guess what happened when I got back in the elevator? A
very helpful person made sure I went back to the airport concourse.

Cheers-
