Not really an answer to your question, but one thing I've noticed as the
weather has been getting cooler is that I have to keep the nose of the
C-172 _above_ the horizon in order to maintain Vy (76 KIAS).  The
student manual I'm using says either/or on the S-turns vs. dipping the
nose; I tend to favor dipping the nose.
