No, I didn't miss that part of your post.   Perhaps I didn't express
my point with sufficient clarity.

As an organization representing the interests of its GA pilot
*members*, AOPA could be a powerful lobbying force to change
industry practices so that the additional expense of renter's
insurance was not necessary for aircraft renters.

Instead, AOPA has chosen to enter the aviation insurance
business.  Even if AOPA doesn't write renter's insurance *in 
your state*, it *is* a product they offer in many states.

I don't feel that's in the best interests of AOPA *members*, 
although it may be a worthwhile product offered to AOPA *customers*.

Right, that's the point.  IMO, they should, and AOPA should be
encouraging/lobbying the industry/supporting FBOs which do this.

Rather than selling a product which is only necessary because they
don't.
