Well, I haven't read Gene Unterman's book, but we purchased our
aircraft ourselves, starting with common sense and the desire
to educate ourselves. Only time will tell whether or not we really
"done good" but the one serious problem we've had so far I don't
think could have been discovered or predicted except by taking the
engine apart much further than any annual inspection ever goes (like
Margy says if it's got tires or testicles just expect trouble!!).

We had a mechanic do a prebuy, and we used AOPA's title and 337
search service (to save time over doing it ourselves at less expense).

If you'd share some of your specific concerns on what seems
daunting or overwhelming or requires a professional, I'd be
happy to share my opinion FWIW and others likewise.
