Well, no, and you gotta see their viewpoint; your plates are halfway
through their useful life (they only last 2 months then expire).  
You might be able to swap them to someone just starting training in 
your area for a couple bucks, save them some money on paying full
price for half-expired plates.

NOS approach plates (which I use) are only $3.00 from Airways
(http://www.flyairways.com/chart.html).  For that price, even 
a Queen Skinflint like me can't fuss too much about buying a
new set of plates.
