Who is going to get hurt if you go cartwheeling across the country side?

The guy in the tower, you think? Of course not.

Just remember that _you_ are the pilot in command and have the
ultimate say in how the aircraft is flown.

An article in some magazine (AOPA or Flight Training?) about a year ago
talked about this. They said that, as PIC, you should _not_ be afraid
to tell ATC what you want to do...do not ask them, tell them (assuming
that you aren't completly off your rocker, of course). If they do not
like it they will probably say "Radar service terminated".

Of course around an airport it is to your benefit to listen to what the
tower is saying, but keep in mind that it is your kneck that will get
twisted if something goes wrong.

(Then there was the 707 that landed at Don Scott (5000 ft runway) after
being told by Port Columbus (15000 ft runway) Tower "I have you in sight,
looking good, cleared to land." The tower guy was the one that got in
the most trouble on this one. Yes, this really did happen. The pilots
lounge at Don Scott is called the '707 Lounge' because of this).
