I remember two interesting go-around experiences I had with my young (half
my age) instructor: the first was when we were coming in on final, stabilized
and descending smoothly. He said it looked like we were going to land on the
numbers (yea, success!!)..... at the *far* end (oops... too high; deflated
spirits). Go around. The other experience, later, was when I made the
go-around decision myself, and early enough. He complimented me on the
decision making.  Don't read this as my having made only two go-arounds;
there were more. But the skill being taught here is good decision making in a
variety of situations. Good CFIs really want to see that.
