Go for it!

Absolutely!

I got some very good advice as a new pilot planning my first long
cross country (about 950 miles one way). An airshow pilot (very
experienced flying long xcs VFR) told me to "just think of it as
a series of 250-350 mile legs and plan an extra day for weather".
There's a little more to it than that but in general it's very
good advice.

So if you can plan and fly a 200-300 mile cross country, you can fly
across the country. Don't let anyone wet blanket you. Be careful,
watch developing wx before your trip, be willing to detour or leave
early if nec. Think about how far *you* can pilot each day (I get
awfully tired after 6 hrs of stick time, myself...I don't do this
every day, after all!)

But don't let the naysayers block you. Like Nike, Just Do It!
