Notice I said _descent_ rate changes, but _best glide speed_ remains the
same.

How does the airplane know what the wind is?  IAS is IAS regardless of
which way the wind is blowing.

Now when it comes to a question of getting to the field or tangling in
the fence....

Am I right or wrong in this?  Anyone else out there with the answer?
