Tom: My situation is quite different than yours but I would like to add
my .02 for the record.

I always wanted to fly and managed to take a single lesson in 1944.
Due to family, jobs, finance, etc Ihad not flown except with friends until
1996.In May of 1996 my wife gave me an intro package for three lessons
and a log book for my 69th birthday.I am now at 68 hours total 16 of them
are solo.I have only managed to fly 2.07 hours per month *BUT* I AM
FLYING. My solo came three days before my 70th birthday.I am presently
working on my cross countries and with a little luck and a push I will
eventually get my ticket. BUT I AM FLYING and after all that is what I
wanted to do.I hope you do not have to wait as long as I did but I
certainly hope you get the chance to live your dream even on such a small
scale as I am.

Best of luck but whatever you do don't give up the dream yet many
things change with time.

  Bob Barker
