I looked into this a while back myself.

Turns out there are only two companies that sell pilot renter insurance.
I don't remember their names, but one of them sells thru agents, such as
the AOPA, and the other does not. No matter who you go to you will get
one or the other.

Haven't gone ahead and done it yet because I am still covered under the
FBO's insurance, but one important 'fine print' difference between the
two is the phrase 'per person' and 'per passenger'. The 'per passenger'
phrase means that if you injure someone on the ground, they will not pay
for it, while 'per person' means that they will pay personal injury
liability regardless of where the person was at the time of the accident.

My personal opinion is to go with the AOPA insurance for two reasons:

1.) they have the 'per person' clause, and 2.) you will be helping to
support the AOPA. (yes, I know, Some of you probably don't like the AOPA, so
_please_ read the last sentence again before telling whats wrong with them.
Notice the part that says 'personal opinion.)

Jim
