[My news server has been down, so have been unable to check in
for two days]

My instructor finally got around to signing me off to leave the pattern
at the home field, so for my lesson last Saturday I did a 'mini'
cross country.

Boy was that fun!!

Went from Morrow Co, OH to Marion, to Bucyrus, to Galion, and back to
Morrow CO. These are the only places he allows me to go to. The
longest leg (Galion to Morrow Co.) is only about 20 miles so this
qualifies as a local flight.

Too/from Marion I tracked the on-field VOR. From Bucyrus to Galion
I just followed the map and compass. The airport at Galion is hard to
spot and I didn't see it until I was almost on top of it, in fact I almost
gave up and was actually turning towards home when I spotted it. I did a
full stop there (others were T&G) then headed back to Morrow Co, by
means of the Loran unit.

When I got back my CFIs wife, who helps run the FBO, congradulated me
on knowing where I was (I had anounced my position 5miles out, 2 miles out,
etc). Guess she forgot the plane had a Loran ;-)!

Total time was 1.1 hours, and I'm feeling like a real pilot now!!!

Jim
