Well, almost....

My instructor signed me off to take the 'grand tour' of the local
area. Now I have 4 airports to practice at!!

It was a fun lesson last night. We flew over to his 'home field', about
5 miles away from 4I9. He owns a farm with two grass strips---2800 ft
and 1700 ft. It was the first time I landed on grass, although have
done soft field take offs on the paved runway at 4I9.

It was 'interesting' because the 2800 ft N/S runway which we used is
higher in the middle than the ends. The runway is narrow, 50 ft if I
remember correctly, and there is a corn field to the left with no
margin for error. It was also getting dark and I could not see the
runway until on final. There were no lights, just a reflector marking
the approach end and two more marking the start of the 'flat' part in
the middle. The flat part is too short, so you have to start your flair
on the up slope so that you touch down right at the start of the flat area.

He said we would go over again sometime and do short/soft landings on the
1700 ft strip.

Jim
