I was having all kinds of problems with this myself, until I changed
instructors. My new one told me the 'right' way to do it. (yes, I know.
I'll probably get 10000 responses saying that I'm wrong. So why do you
think I put the quotes around it?)

When on base and final I concentrate on the numbers or some other spot
on the approach end of the runway. As I get close to the ground and start
the round out I shift my attention to the far end of the runway. My CFI
said that if the nose blocks my view I am flaring too much---the attitude
is almost the same as for a normal take off.

This is something that is actually easier to do than describe.
