Well, mostly I spend money. Lots of money :)

I fly because I love it. There's a quote which refers to "this
miracle which lies under our hands and beneath our feet". That's
really how I feel. I think all the time, I'm so lucky I get to
do this. I had surgery a few weeks ago and didn't fly for a bit.
Last Friday my husband flew me off to dinner. I felt such a sense
of peace when I jumped up on the wing, I can't explain.

What I appreciate most in a practical sense about flying is its
ability to shrink distance. Friends and relatives who are a 3
hr drive away become an hour flight. Friends and relatives who
are a 14 hr drive away, I can get there in 4-5 hrs. I get to do
something I love, and see them more often too.

Recreational activities (like whitewater rafting) which would
require two days driving to access -- I can fly there in the
morning, have fun, fly back that night or the next morning.
It takes planning though to find places which are accessible
by plane or will come pick up at the airport. Otherwise one
can have to rent a car, and the $$ mount up fast.
