Alternator interference is also pretty common.  Unfortunately one
can't as readily switch the alternator off IMC, not without careful
thought anyway.

I just wanted to point out that this is a case where pilots can
really help out the mechanics and avionics technicians (and save
money, if it's a club or a privately owned plane).  If a radio
is not working properly or is subject to interference, a few minutes
in the air and a note "ADF does not work properly when alternator
on" or "#2 obs reads 1/2 scale with both #1 and #2 nav" can really
help pin down the problem much faster than "ADF inop" or "#2 obs
inop".
