I haven't any first hand experience with this, but can relate some second
hand experience.

A friend of mine payed for his sons flight training as his 'college education'
when he graduated from high school. (Bought him a 180hp cessna 172, too :-) )

They sent out inquiries to lotsa places and checked out two in person.

The one they picked is down near Atlanta, GA. (sorry, don't remember the
name, but sure someone else on here will). The one they checked in
Florida he said was 'a dump'. His words, not mine. Sorry, but I don't
remember _their_ name either, which is good because I would've just made
them mad!

In 5 months he came back with 11 different ratings. (weather was bad---
normally it takes 4 months)

If you are serious about this, I would go to a nearby FBO and start
taking lessonsj right away, while looking for a school.
