Good call. Know your limitations. If you don't feel comfortable doing
it, STOP. Did you file a PIREP?

A solo XCC I did was initially planned at 3500-4500, and I ended up
flying around 1500-2000 instead. Dialled up the FSS and amended the
flight plan. This was in Florida, where the haze was bad and the
thermals even worse.
