There are good and bad shops in both the dealer and independent categories.

kind of car as you do, for opinions on the quality of service at various
shops (whether dealer or independent)?  Of course, you can call the shops
to get prices to add into the comparison.  In some areas, you may be able
to find local consumer magazines that do surveys of auto repair shops.
