Maybe, but it's news to me. The other guy was right; look at stuff like
tire pressures and balance; maybe there is something defective in the
rear suspension, or alignment. Shocks shouldn't be shot this early.
Nothing in the rear of a Corolla should be shot this early. What
mechanic told you this stuff? Get a second opinion.

Our 97 Corrolla has about 20,000 miles For the last couple of
months there has been a noise from the rear end. It sort of sounded
like tires but it wasn't a sound I recognized from my 40 years around
cars. Took it to the dealer and they diagnosed tire cupping on the
left rear tire. He said Corrollas are susceptable to this and there
was no "cure". I seem to remember cupping was caused by bad
shocks. I asked about different shocks or rear axle alignment or
anyrhing else that could be done to keep this from happening.
The service writer said to rotate the tires every 3,000 miles.

I normally don't rotate tires on front wheel drive cars because
the rears will last 3 or 4 times as long as the fronts. Why buy 4 if
you don't have to.

Anyway, has anybody else had this happen? Is there a real cure?
