From what I understand, this is why rear windows (or any window with a 
lot of curvature) are done with multiple pieces of tint.  For instance, 
my 1989 Oldmobile Ciera has three pieces on the back window, not because 
the shop who did it didn't have tint big enough, but to prevent bubbles.

I don't know why it works like this, but apparently when you have 
curvature you really have to use multiple pieces of tint if you want it 
done right and to last.

Also, when the guy was tinting my Oldsmobile he did use a heat lamp on 
the rear window, I think the hair dryer just may not be able to heat the 
window and tint up enough to do the job for you.
