Comp. Sci. 513 Study Guide for Final Fall, 2021

The final will be 8 a.m., Thursday, 12/16/21, in CS142.

The test is closed book and closed notes. This is because I want you to understand the material beforehand. I expect you to know certain definitions cold such as what Γ ϕ and what Γ ϕ mean. The test will be cumulative.

I will put a crib sheet on the last page of the final containing some information that you should know but don't need to memorize. I will put up a draft of the final crib sheet this week. Please feel free to email me suggestions that you would like to see there and I'll post the final version on Wednesday morning, Dec. 15.

To study for the final, I urge you to do the following:

  1. Go over the five homeworks, and their model solutions, as well as the solutions to the midterm, making sure that you now understand all of these!
  2. Go over your lecture notes and Rik's notes, handouts and readings for all the lectures, making sure that you understand these. You are not responsible for material in the student presentations. I will emphasize the material that has been touched on in the homeworks.
  3. Relax and get a good night's sleep on Wednesday night.

I try hard to make my exams like my problem sets only simpler because they are closed book and there is a time limit. There should be more time than you need for the final -- it should be similar in length and difficulty to the midterm.

I strongly encourage you to ask questions on Piazza as you consolidate your knowledge while studying for the final, but we won't answer anything posted after 8 p.m. Wednesday night, Dec. 15.
