# Homework Assignment #4

#### Posted Friday 27 April 2007

#### Due in (lecture) class, Monday 13 May 2007

There are thirteen questions for 100
total points. All are from
the textbook, *A Mathematical Foundation for Computer Science*,
by Barrington. (These problems are from Chapter 9, which is part of the
bound volume you bought at the beginning of the term.)
The text has both Exercises (with solutions in the back)
and Problems (without solutions) -- these assignments are Problems so make
sure you don't do an Exercise by mistake.

The number after each problem is its individual point value.

Students are responsible for understanding and following
the academic honesty
policies indicated on this page.

Page 9-13: Problems 9.2.4 (10) and 9.2.5 (10)

Page 9-20: Problem 9.3.1 (5) (You need not list all 64 languages because
there are large categories of them that you can prove to have the same
languages.)

Pages 9-27 and 9-28: Problems 9.5.1 (5) and 9.5.3 (10)

Page 9-34: Problems 9.6.1 (5) and 9.6.3 (10)

Pages 9-42 and 9-43: Problems 9.7.1 (10) and 9.7.5 (5)
