Project Guidelines

The course project is an opportunity to explore additional topics in interactive learning that you are especially interested in. Broadly, projects can fall into three categories.
  • Literature Survey. Conduct a literature review of research on a particular topic in interactive learning theory. Provide a detailed and clear overview of results along with algorithmic and analysis techniques. Also identify possibly interesting directions.
  • New Theoretical Research. Design and analyze a new algorithm for an interactive learning setting, improve on analysis for existing algorithms, or derive negative results. Any research tied to interactive learning is acceptable here but make sure you have a backup contingency plan.
  • Experimental Evaluation. Conduct an experimental evaluation of existing interactive learning algorithms.
The project will consist of two components.
  • Project Proposal (25%) -- 1-2 pages, due 10/4
  • Project Writeup (75%) -- 8 pages, due 12/13
Both documents should be in NIPS format.
