I
am currently a 5th year PhD candidate at the Center for Intelligent
Information Retrieval (CIIR), Computer Science Department,
University of Massachusetts, Amherst. My advisor is Prof. W. Bruce
Croft. Before joining CIIR, I received my B.Sc. and M.Sc.
degrees
from Department of Computer Science & Technology, Nanjing
University, China in 2004 and 2007.
I am broadly interested in information retrieval and machine learning as well as their practical
applications. My current research focuses on query reformulation, which modifies the original query
with the aim of better matching the vocabulary of relevant documents and consequently improving
the relevance of search systems. My previous research includes question and answer retrieval, patent
retrieval, multi-modal retrieval and text categorization. I am passionate about solving real world
problems that deal with large scale and complex data using my research experience.
