This page shows topic trends in ICML 2004-2008. Topics are trained using
a Dirichlet-multinomial regression (DMR) topic model
(PDF).
In a DMR model, the Dirichlet prior over topic mixtures for each document
is a log-linear combination of features (in this case an indicator for each
conference and year) and a set of learned parameters.
Topics are sorted by their default Dirichlet parameters, with the most
prominent topics first. The bar chart shows the relative proportion
for the topic in each of the five years (ie the exponentiated parameter
for that year's feature). Each topic also shows the most probable words and
phrases. Phrases are extracted post hoc by counting the frequency of
sequences of words assigned to the same topic.
